This is Me

I am Joanna Baes, a committed STEM student who aspires to graduate from senior high school, proceed to college and become a Civil Engineer. My purpose in life is that I want to leave a reputation and I want to be remembered as someone that is brave enough to chase her dreams even if others told her not to. I want to be someone who is brave enough to be herself and not care about what other people will say.  I want to inspire other aspiring artists like me that we don’t have to convince everyone to like our work and that we shouldn’t stop in doing what we love just because others don’t appreciate the effort that we exert to create our masterpieces.

I’ve always been torn between pursuing a career based on practicality and pursuing something that I will enjoy. However, the former always wins. The two careers I’m talking about is civil engineering and any art-related profession such as animator, freelance artist, or a songwriter. Like what I said earlier, practicality always wins thus, civil engineering is my first choice.

I want to pursue this career firstly because my favorite subject is Mathematics. I enjoy solving challenging Math problems which is one of the primary skills needed if you want to pursue a career in engineering. The second reason is because of the salary. Based on what I’ve searched civil engineers are paid around Php 264,355.00 on average. For me, it’s practical because I’ll get paid doing a job that is related to one of my interests.

My second career option is to be an artist. I’ve always been fascinated by how other artists use their creativity in creating a work of art such as painting, sculpture, and music. Because of them, I became inspired to be creative as well and that’s why I started learning art through the helpful artists on YouTube. Art is my passion and I wanted to use it not only to earn money but also make a difference in the world filled with people who suffers from waking up just to do an endless routine. I wanted to wake up and smile because I’m excited to start the day and do my job. I wanted to inspire aspiring artists like the way others inspired me. This is because I believe that without art, the world is bland.

If I’m given a chance or opportunity, instead of choosing between engineering and arts, I will pursue both. I will do my best not only to make my family proud but to also make myself proud of what I’ve become. Like how I like to take the challenge of solving difficult Math problems, I will also take the challenges brought by these two careers. Even if it’s hard, even If some people told me not to, I will; because I know that I can.
